young adults

We’ve got a lot of young adults who call E-Free home and we’re always glad to have some more! Our goal in young adults is the same as it is for the rest of the church ministries – Growing Disciples of Christ through loving God, loving others and serving the world.

We're currently in summer mode which means we're done our weekly things like toonie supper (as of the end of April) and house groups, but we're going to be having bi-weekly BBQ's to keep in touch with everyone who's around for the summer. If you're coming to Lethbridge this fall as a new student or for a job, welcome! We've got some plans for stuff coming this fall, so check back for more details as September approaches.

FAQ

Who do you define as 'young adults'? - Technically, we say anyone from the age of 18-30 is a young adult and is welcome to join us. Often people transition out before they're 30, but we're open to embracing anyone in that age range. We're not a singles group - there are some who are married, some who are single. We're not just a student group - we've got lots from both the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College, but we've also got lots who work and live in Lethbridge and who are just looking for a great church to call home.

Do you have some king of weekly meeting or group? - Yes and no. We've got a number of things that run weekly, but we don't run a specific young adults night or service at the church. Many young adults come to Church at 6, so our biggest gathering point is Toonie Supper. Toonie Supper is a weekly thing that happens Sunday's throughout the school year at 5:00 PM where we get together and eat together for the mere price of a toonie. The food is always good and the company is better. In 2011-2012 we had a number of house groups that met together weekly that were always open to new people and they were great small group kind of things. We try to encourage our young adults to plug in and attend one of our services and serve in some area of ministry. We've got lots who volunteer as youth small groups leaders, lots who are involved with children's ministry, lots in worship arts... and there are tons of other opportunities. We also run monthly events - just to hang out and do something fun together.

Where do I get details about what all of this stuff looks like? - We've got a facebook group where you can connect with people and see what we've done and what's coming up. We try to post interesting links and articles from time to time to stimulate your mind and redeem some of the ridiculousness that is facebook. If you're not on FB, don't worry, we also send out a monthly email newsletter (if you're not on email then maybe we should chat...). You can sign up for that here.

I've heard something about a retreat - what's the deal? - We run a annual fall retreat which is really awesome. It's a great chance to meet some new people and spend some time away from the craziness of life focusing on relationships with others and relationship with God. The date for 2012 is October 12-14, and more details will follow shortly. Sign up for the newsletter to make sure you can register for the cheap rate... (There's also the very real possibility of us doing a winter retreat this year... stay tuned for more info on that!)

You didn't answer my question. Who's writing this stuff anyways? - I'm Dave, and I'm the director of Young Adults and Worship at E-Free. I'm always more than glad to sit down and chat over a coffee and talk about any questions you've got or things you're going through. We've got a big staff here at E-Free, so there are lots of other pastors who would be glad to talk to you too, but I'm the guy who feels responsible for the spiritual health and growth of young adults. We really value you and your input, whether you're here permanently or you're just here for a semester of classes. I think our church needs you to come and ask questions and get involved, we're richer for it.
